*The world famous Howling Dog Saloon is the number one choice among Alaskans in a 2001 "Best of Alaska" survey of bars by Alaska Magazine
Come visit the Farthest North Rock & Roll bar in the world with live music 4+ nights/week on a stage covered with the very holy red carpet graced by Pope John Paul II, and President Reagan during their historic meeting here in Fairbanks.
Over the years, The Dog has gained an international reputation. Just one look at the ceiling of the dance floor will confirm some of the citizens of foreign countries who have left their flags. Look at the ceiling over the main bar and you can see currencies from all over the world signed by tourists, and out of state license plates left by visitors. We are a favorite stop for bikers from all around the world.
Located in Fox, Alaska, The Howling Dog Saloon features the rustic charm of old mining towns, the traveler's spirit found at remote roadhouses, and the comradery found among miners (after they've assayed their pokes).
Originally located in Ester, Alaska, The Dog was moved to Fox, where it has been kenneled ever since. Additions over the years have expanded the bar areas, included a kitchen, added cabins and a volleyball area. The Dog has hosted Foodstock multiple times and hopes to do so again.
After lying dormant for two years, The Dog has been revived by new owners. While most of the traditions have been left untouched, changes in state laws have mandated altering or altogether doing away with a few of the old ones. Currently, The Dog is remodeling some of the cabins. The cabins are available to rent.
We have live music every Wednesday, Thurdsay, Friday, and Saturday.
